The Sun is a symbol of energy and vitality. For the ancient Celts and even earlier, the movement of the Sun was celebrated through the seasons of the year. Amazing monuments -- including Newgrange and other sites -- were created thousands of years ago to mark the passage of time through observation of the light of the Sun and its path through the sky.
